_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________East Germany’s most famous victory came in the group stages of the 1974 World Cup against who else, West Germany. The winner of the game would win the group and 13 minutes from time, East Germany’s Jürgen Sparwasser got the deciding goal, Berti Vogts and Sepp Maier could only look on. West Germany still progressed but the match, and result, had greater implications considering the political circumstances at the time.
